I know this work from the inside.
I came up in the trade before I ever held a safety title. It changes how I do the job.
I started in 2017 as an insulator and sheet metal installer. Later I rigged loads and ran forklifts on the same kinds of sites I walk now as a safety rep. I've worked at height, in tight spaces and under loads that don't forgive a bad decision. So when I write a JSA or brief a crew, I'm not guessing at the work.
Since 2024 I've worked ES&H on LNG construction in Gregory and Ingleside. I train crews in English and Spanish, run field audits and observations, and inspect fall protection with Bechtel and Cheniere ESH. My job is simple: find the hazard before it finds somebody, and leave the crew better trained than I found them.

The plan is sound. The work front is where it's tested.
Context
The hazards on a live LNG site are known and engineered out where they can be. What a document can't hold is time: a job safety analysis written at 6 a.m. for a task that changes by mid-morning, a tie-off point that moves when the scaffold does, a lift plan approved for a load that isn't what came through the gate. Nothing on the page is wrong. It's just older than the work.
Approach
Verify the work, not the file. Read the JSA against what the crew is actually doing under it, check the anchor rather than only the harness, match the lift to the load that arrived — and walk the front before the first task lands, not after. When the two don't line up, the task stops where it stands and gets corrected with the crew still there. Then the person who'll make that call next time is coached, in the language they think in.
What it changes
The exposure closes the hour it's found, not in a report the following week. Corrections start arriving from the crew instead of from outside: a hand on the shoulder before the lift, a hazard raised before the JSA is re-signed. A front that has to be audited into compliance drifts back the moment the auditor leaves.
